Joe Beenblossom's love of nature and wildlife, combined with a talent for art has guided him in his paintings for over 40 years.  An enthusiastic outdoorsman and avid fisherman himself, Joe spends the majority of his year outdoors.  His time is spent studying, photographing and continually collecting reference material for his paintings.  For every painting he does, Joe spends weeks studying and sketching, paying attention to the smallest of details.

Born and raised in Eastern Iowa, Joe began his painting and drawing at an early age.  He was never far from a pencil or a fishing pole.  Joe now lives in Plainfield, Iowa with his wife Laura and their 3 sons, Nicholas, Nathan and Glenn.  Graduating from Hawkeye Institute of Technology with an Associates of Applied Arts degree, Joe went directly to work freelancing for area art studios.  This took on a role of continued education as he was able to further develop his illustration and design skills as well as priceless instruction in the use of the airbrush.  Joe employs the techniques of airbrush and paint brush with acrylics on illustration board in the majority of his work.  "The airbrush gives a three-dimensional, photographic appearance.  I want to make the subject stand out and come to life".  In 1980, Joe entered into a position as an art director in the agriculture industry.  His work today is commissioned, including but not limited to life-size trophy fish, encouraging the catch-and-release program that is becoming the philosophy of many outdoorsman today.  His paintings and drawings can be found in many private collections.

"I am intrigued by the uniqueness of each animal and fish that I paint.  Each one is distinctive.  I want to bring each subject to life.  I want to give someone looking at my painting the feeling of quiet gracefulness and yet a feeling that something explosive is about to happen.  I want them to be able to see a story unfolding and have a feeling of anticipation."
